When I am humbled it is then that I see how truly great I am. It is in the smallness (of being humbled) where I see the grandness of my true Self, my Soul.
For me, being humbled often happens when I am reminded that I do not in fact know everything or that perhaps I am not being a very good listener. And, actually, both---thinking I know everything and not listening---go hand-in-hand. Isn't it true that we stop listening because we feel there is no value in the noise we hear or too busy conjuring up our retort?
But when I stop and really listen to the other, my outer voice stills as my inner voice silently speaks---be it through a nod, a gesture, or calm presence. When I celebrate the voice of another my inner knowing expands, my Soul rejoices. It is in this moment of awareness---where I am reminded how small the ego is in comparison to my cosmic Being---that the little (ego) self releases into the grandness of my Soul as it merges with Divine love.
It is through humility that one's Soul may truly shine.
